Upcoming Projects

Starting up again soon is the Google 20% Time Project. What we do is spend 20% of our time each week to work on whatever project we want that connects to a social issue. A new tab underneath my blogging page will hold all of my progress, successes, and failures throughout the project.

This project goes back to last year. We had the same prompt with the same goal. Make something that will have an impact on the people around you and spend 20% of your time doing it. Last year I chose the social issue of Domestic Violence and made an awareness/prevention video to go along with it. My original goal was to share this video along with a presentation to younger schools in the district so they can be aware of the warning signs and know what to do in that situation. I wasn't very successful. Overall I was satisfied with my project but it was a rush at the end and I didn't get much done.

This year I'm planning to manage my time better but I do not have a single idea floating around in my head. I'm working on that. We did a "Bad Idea Factory" in class a few days ago which helped slightly but not much. The class came up with very creative ones but mine were generic like not showering for a week or not talking for a school day. I'm planning on working on some free writing to clear my mind of all the bland ideas so I can dig deeper and come up with an idea that really means something to me.

All I really want to do in life is help people. Make people happy and see them smile from something I did is one of the best sights in the world. That's my primary goal of this project, more than obtaining a good grade or finishing. I was thinking I could tie this into music somehow. Whenever I'm not feeling too hot, music is what I turn to first because other people are better at putting my feelings into words than I am.
